Life in the Time of Corona

Honestly, I’m not in the mood for one of my fascinating, enthralling, engrossing historical perspectives on some current or historical item of interest. We’ll save that for another time, maybe when the pandemic is over.

Nor will this post have anything to do with the highly recommended book, ‘Life in the Time of Cholera.’ My editor thought the title was clever and witty, when it actually is pretty dumb.

Anyway, we are going to follow up on my previous post about baseball as the national pastime - you can read it again here - Baseball is still our National Pastime.

Humor - can any sport beat baseball for comedy routines? And we certainly could use some humor right now.

Lets take a look at some of the best.

We’ll start with two versions of Who’s on first - the original by Abbott and Costello and a remake by Jimmy Fallon, Billy Crystal, and Jerry Seinfield:

Check these out:

  • Adam Sandler reveals the real history of baseball

  • James Corden takes a swing at baseball

Finally, Conan O’Brien travels back to 1864 to observe a baseball game.

Conan O'brien goes back to 1864 to play baseball.

Seriously, can any other sport compete with Baseball for humor?

Coming up next week, Baseball movies.
